Our story
Mounter Carpets & Flooring Limited was established in 1993, fitting and supplying the highest standards in carpets, vinyl, laminates, wood, and specialist-flooring Amtico and Karndean for over 15 years, to both domestic and commercial properties. In 2010, Mounter Carpets and Flooring acquired the Turners name and premises, forming Mounter & Turners, Bedford’s leading independent specialist floor-covering suppliers.
For locals, Turners Carpets, has always been a familiar part of the landscape, supplying top quality floor coverings for over 30 years. Turners had two family generations of company management, with Ian Outram eventually succeeding his father Clive.
The company history goes all the way back to 1830 though, when George Turner first began making rope at No. 36 St. Johns Street, Bedford, known locally as “The Ropeworks”.
The council purchased No. 36 in 1996, knocking it down to make way for the new relief road, hence it’s new name ‘Rope Walk’. Turners moved to No. 66a, just a little way up the road, where it expanded its range to include tarpaulins, industrial clothing and packaging materials.
